A
- Acceptor
An acceptor is a webshop, (government) agency, or organization where consumers can identify themselves with iDIN online. An acceptor is also called a merchant. In order to be able to offer iDIN, a merchant must enter into an agreement with an acquirer or DISP.
- Acquirer
An acquirer is a merchant bank with which an acceptor or DISP can enter into an agreement to integrate iDIN on their website ('to acquire' in English).

- Certificate holder
The institution that has concluded a certificate agreement with the iDIN management organisation .
- Clearing and settlement
This is an activity rather than a role. It is included in the model to make it easier to understand. Clearing takes place according to bilateral agreements between Licence-holders and is the basis for the settlement of [woordenlijst term="cpsp-or-collecting-payment-service-provider"]cpsp-or-collecting-payment-service-provider[/woordenlijst].
For the processing of payments (clearing and settlement) between an Issuer and an Acquirer, the Institutions concerned reach agreements with each other.
- Consumer
In the context of iDIN, consumers are the ones who identify themselves online with iDIN in order to be able to log in to an acceptor in a safe and trusted manner. A consumer who has access to online banking with one of the participating banks can in principle use iDIN.
- Consumer bank
A consumer bank (also known as an issuer) is a bank that enables its account holders (consumers) to identify themselves with iDIN online. This bank provides ('to issue' in English) personal data of the consumer (choice of gender, name, home address, date of birth or age) to the acquirer of an acceptor or DISP.

A DISP or Digital Identity Service Provider is an identity service provider that provides IDIN services to acceptors. Like an acquirer, a DISP can offer ready-made identity services to acceptors.

A Digital Identity Service Provider (DISP) that, just like the acquirer, offers business customers the opportunity to integrate iDIN on their website.
- Issuer
An issuer is a consumer bank that enables its account holders (consumers) to identify themselves with iDIN online. This bank provides ('to issue' in English) confirmation of the consumer's identity to the acquirer of an acceptor or DISP.

This document describes the technical specifications for the integration of iDIN on an acceptor's website. Once an accepting party has entered into an iDIN contract, he will receive the Merchant Integration Guide from his identity service provider.

- Payment Service Provider or PSP
This is an institution that holds:
(a) a licence as a bank, insofar as this licence authorises it to provide payment services within the meaning of the Wft; or
(b) a licence as a payment institution or to which an exemption has been granted under Article 2:3b, 2:3d and 2:3e of the Wft; or
(c) a licence as an e-money institution or to which an exemption has been granted under Article 2:10b, 2:10d en 2:10e of the Wft.
The above-mentioned institutions must be registered as such in the licence register of De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB).
