Due to the rapid increase in digital services and the need to comply with the EU’s Electronic Identification, Authentication and Trust Services (eIDAS) Regulation and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), merchants have a growing need for certainty about the identity of customers and users. Also they need a reliable and secure mean of identification.

Using iDIN or itsme, customers can easily confirm their identity online because they have already provided the necessary proof of identity when opening a bank account or activating itsme-app.

If you want to use iDIN or itsme, you can offer this option along with other login and identification methods on your website. In this way, you offer your customers more choice when logging in. Your customers identify themselves with iDIN or itsme by sending you data that has already been verified by the bank or itsme. This includes data such as the customer’s name, date of birth, home address, gender, email address and/or telephone number. Multiple processes can be carried out in a paperless digital environment, thanks to iDIN or itsme. This is more efficient for both the merchant and the consumer. iDIN or itsme consists of several product types that can be used in different use cases:

  • Identification
  • Login
  • Age confirmation
  • Signature

If you want to use iDIN as an online identification service on your website, you must conclude an agreement with one of the participating Acquirers or Digital Identity Service Providers. They offer different types of agreements and can give you more information about the costs and (technical) options to implement iDIN or itsme.
